Australasian Rail Industry Remuneration ReportHewitt CSi in conjunction with the ARA's Rail Skills and Career Council produces the Australasian Rail Industry Remuneration Report in June each year. In 2006, the ARA Skills and Career Council identified a need within the Australasian rail industry for a comprehensive, reliable and authoritative source of market intelligence on pay rates, salary packaging arrangements and remuneration trends. Following a tender process, the committee engaged Hewitt CSi to manage the production of the Australasian Rail Industry Remuneration Reports over the next three years. The inaugural edition was released in 2006. The 2008 report is now available. Fourteen organisations contributed salaries and benefits information relating to 1,578 individual employees, enabling the publication of comprehensive remuneration and benefits tables for 79 separate positions. This market intelligence is used by participating organisations to set salary levels that are aligned with the pay rates offered in the market, thereby ensuring that business profitability is not compromised by overspending on salaries and talented employees are not lost from the organisation as a result of underspending on salaries. The annual report subscription includes a forum facilitated by Hewitt CSi, where report participants meet to discuss the report content and findings as well as remuneration/human resources issues. These forums facilitate the sharing of human resources experiences and practice within the industry and are useful opportunities for collectively broadening remuneration expertise.
