Why Organisations Use Hewitt's Surveys

Following is an outline of why Hewitt's surveys have a reputation for being market representative, reliable, accurate, defensible and user-friendly.

Market Representative
Range of Surveys: Hewitt produces remuneration reports specific to various different industry sectors, as well as a comprehensive executive report and a general industry survey. From this diverse range of survey products, clients can access data that is most relevant to their individual organisation.

Participating Organisations: Every Hewitt survey contains a range of organisations including the market leaders in particular industry sectors and an assortment of large, medium and small businesses. In addition, each report typically features a number of organisations in each sub-sector of an industry. For example, within the Banking & Finance Industries Report, participating organisations include retail and international banks, finance organisations, credit unions, building societies, and asset management organisations.

Position Coverage: Each Hewitt survey has a dedicated Remuneration Specialist that monitors specific industry sectors and procures client feedback in order to make changes, additions or deletions to surveyed positions. This enables Hewitt to respond to industry changes and ensure that position coverage in all reports remains reflective of the market.

Depth of Data: Hewitt's reports are available only to those organisations that provide their employees' remuneration data for inclusion within survey reports. This differentiates Hewitt surveys from competitor products and ensures that our report databases are robust and current and therefore market representative.

Current
Hewitt has developed streamlined survey processes to ensure that survey publications are dispatched to clients in a timely manner following the finalisation of client's data submissions. In addition, most survey reports are produced twice per year so that clients have access to current remuneration information all year round.

Consistent
Year on year, Hewitt's remuneration and benefits database remains largely consistent. This consistency ensures that meaningful comparisons of reported figures over 12 month periods can be reliably performed to assess market pay trends and industry trends. Trend analyses are included in the 'Survey Highlights' section of Hewitt's reports.

Detailed Data Presentation
Data is presented for all elements of remuneration packages at the average and at varied market percentiles. This allows clients to view individual remuneration and benefit items and aggregates relevant to their internal remuneration policies and practices. Variety Of Report Formats
Hewitt produces reports in soft copy PDF (adobe acrobat) format. The Data Centre is also provided to report participants as part of their subscription. Where requested, Hewitt also provides hard copy binders containing survey results to survey participants for an additional nominal 'extra copy' fee.

Hewitt offers a range of Data Analysis services. In essence, the survey data can be arranged in a variety of formats to meet the needs of individual organisations. These services are provided on request for an additional nominal fee.

With such flexibility of reporting, Hewitt meets the needs of every individual organisation.

Supporting Information
Hewitt's reports provide more than just market remuneration rates for surveyed positions. Hewitt surveys contain information pertaining to pay market movements and economic trends. They also feature remuneration information by Career Level.

Remuneration information by Career Level may be used to:

  • Provide an additional source of broader market remuneration data for those positions that CAN be directly matched within the Survey
  • Provide a source of market remuneration data for those positions that CANNOT be directly matched within the Survey
  • Establish internal pay and career development structures that are directly linked to dynamic market remuneration forces

Transparent Methodology
All formulae, calculations and methodologies utilised by Hewitt staff to produce surveys are well known, widely used, statistically supported and considered 'best-practice'. Formulae, calculations and methodologies relevant to each report are published under a unique section of the report entitled 'Survey Methodology'. This transparency allows clients to understand and question the basis of the survey data and make informed decisions on what the data represents and how to use the data.

Standard Data Collection
Hewitt staff recognise that results provided in survey reports are only as good as the data used to produce those results. For this reason, much emphasis is placed on ensuring that Hewitt clients are empowered to provide accurate data.

Data collection for Hewitt's reports is conducted using a standardised and comprehensive data collection software tool, RapidRem. RapidRem contains six steps that guide clients through the process of providing all of the necessary data for inclusion within survey reports. With detailed instructions and supporting documentation, RapidRem is based on Microsoft Excel T to ensure that clients are entering data within a familiar environment. The software also features functionality that allows clients to check and validate their data before uploading it to Hewitt systems.

The structure of Hewitt as an organisation reflects our commitment to including only checked and validated data within survey reports. A number of resources are dedicated to ensuring data integrity. Furthermore, whilst the RapidRem software tool leads the market in terms of functionality and ease of data entry, Hewitt staff recognise that from time to time clients need additional help with their data input. For this reason, each Hewitt report has a dedicated remuneration specialist that can provide support to clients entering data, either via the telephone, email or personal visitation.

Historically High Quality Data
Hewitt's reports have been a trusted source of market data to many businesses for almost twenty years. Survey production has constituted a core Hewitt business function in the past and will remain so into the future. As a result, Hewitt has established processes to ensure that a consistently high quality of data is reported in each survey publication.

Hewitt's aim in providing remuneration reports is to present an accurate representation of the pay market. Hewitt is a completely independent survey provider and has no vested interest in seeing market rates inflated or deflated for the purposes of other business functions.

Confidentiality
Maintaining confidentiality of client's data is paramount to Hewitt's reputation as a leading survey provider and remuneration consultancy. As such the culture of the company, and every system and process utilised by Hewitt staff is built around client/data confidentiality. Organisations subscribing to Hewitt surveys are assured that the confidentiality of their data and remuneration concerns will be upheld at all times.

Consumer Friendly
Whilst the survey results reported in Hewitt's reports are presented in the most straightforward manner, it cannot be denied that using and interpreting survey data is a specialised skill. Hewitt therefore provides comprehensive support to survey subscribers on an ongoing basis as well as the option to participate in specialised training seminars. Of most relevance to report subscribers is Hewitt's 'How To Use Salary Surveys' training seminar.

Support to survey subscribers comes in a variety of formats. As part of the survey subscription, clients may contact the Remuneration Specialist responsible for their report to discuss survey matters. Report subscribers may also request a personal visitation from the Remuneration Specialist responsible for their survey provided their organisation is located in the vicinity of Hewitt offices.

A remuneration forum for report subscribers often follows the publication of most Hewitt reports. Remuneration forums are designed to provide survey contributors with an overview of the survey results, an analysis of the state of the industry and/or broader pay market, and an opportunity for survey subscribers to network and share and gain remuneration and survey related information.
